Teddy's House
For months Teddy has been trying to get his house built, especially before his third child is born in a couple months. So for a couple days the menfolk went up to Northside to help build. It was a little hot, in case you can't tell by Rock's shirt. :)

Joe and Camas worked to fix some incorrect measurements and make the house stable.

The main structures of the house are now done....

and although they haven't finished everything, it is exciting to see the house almost done. This is Teddy... he's always got a smile on his face :)

sweet Breesa before she died. this was the little bed we made for her after being brutally attacked by a dog. her bad side is down so you can't see the damage... i'm still a little traumatized from it

babysittin angie
angie's mom had to be hospitalized about a week after having her second baby, so we babysat 3-year old angie for 3 days. she is the sweetest child, at a very vocal stage.
this is Camas jammin with her :) he has high hopes of her being a rocker chic when she grows up
some favorite quotes:
"don't come by me!" (to larry)
"the MAN!" (about Joe in his dive skin)
"boom baby" (Emily taught her that)
"my chocolates on your ba-ack" (after smearing it on Joe's shirt)
"stop singing!" (to Camas)
"jalisa!!!" (my name)
patty-cake, patty-cake
my boil, spider bite, infestation... who knows
about a month ago i got this wierd bite. it got really swollen, hot, and painful. i left it alone for a week or so. when it kept worsening, i started taking antibiotics, which didn't seem to help.
the islanders swear by the bush medicine technique of placing a hot pepper leaf on the boil (pronounced "bile") and letting it come to a head. at this point you are to lance it ("jug it"... pronounced juge) and get the "mommy" out. let's just say this method did not work.

the boil/bite kept getting more and more painful. after i had fevers and swelling in my foot we decided to surgically intervene.

the whole team was there for moral support, which was really just to see the show (thanks guys...). i decided i wanted to numb it myself and joe would do the incision and draining.

something i thought i'd never do... injecting lido into my own leg (it seemed less scary than some one else doing it). joe then cut it open but only blood came out (no pus).
dr. david (our stateside director) suggested it is probably a spider bite, which is self-limiting and would heal on its own. it is still a small nodule but not painful or red... this only reinforces my theory that bugs LOVE me despite my passionate hatred for them. :)
Happy 94th Birthday, Papa Lee!
a week late (oops!) we celebrated Papa Lee's 94th bday on his porch. he was very excited because he had not celebrated his real birthday.

sheila, larry, mandy, and i made the trek out there ... we ate cake and sang to him with the help of some of his children and grandchildren :)

nothin better than chocolate cake

please pray for papa lee:
the wednesday after we celebrated his birthday he was having trouble peeing and sent for help at the clinic. i rushed down to Bentley Bay and could NOT get a catheter in him (if you want to know the details of why not i will tell you via email... several men have told me the story is pretty painful). i could see his bladder through his abdomen and knew we needed immediate help, especially with his weak cardiac status.
so we booked it down island and got a taxi to the coxen hole hospital. this is where the story gets really bloody... sparing the details, they performed surgery IN THE ER without pain meds to cut open his abdomen and give him a suprapubic cath. the surgery was unsuccessful (i have no idea why, i was standing right there and couldn't see why they couldn't get it to work) so he was rushed to the OR. he was transfused blood over night, but we were not sure if he was going to make it.
the next day he was flown to la ceiba to see a urologist. he was there for a few days... because the day he got there the urologist left for tegucigalpa (at the risk of sounding cynical i have to say... typical).
he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. it is still bleeding slowly, and it has spread to his bowels. he is ready to go home to Jesus, and is at peace with whenever God takes him home. he is now here in Helene, praise God. please pray for his family as they help take care of him and that his pain will be minimal.
sleepover!!!
as a kick-off for our new Bible study, the 9 girls that come to Bible study had a sleepover here at the clinic in the bunkhouse. this is Zanoli, Janelle, and Sharby hammin it up for the camera
we ate too much sugar, we danced....
we played games, we watched movies...
long story... don't ask :) we watched 4 movies, stayed up til 3 and got up at 5, took all the battery power so the clinic didn't have any after 4 (whoops! sorry!), and all around had a blast... even if i did have to sleep the entire day to make up for it.
